In recent times village level communities living on agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forests have became victims of climate change caused by the dominant industrial development models. SCINDeA has been involved in building the capacities of vulnerable communities whose livelihoods are based on natural resources to adapt to climate change in order to minimize release of greenhouse gases from their livelihood related activities.
In the last 7-10 years SCINDeA has also involved in environmental & eco protection activities like tree plantation, building of low cost irrigation structures, mangrove development, promotion of micro watersheds and sustainable agriculture.
Partner organizations of the SCINDeA Network have promoted a Green Village Programme in 15 villages.
The Green Village Program activities include tree plantation, promotion of green clubs, segregation of bio-degradable & non- bio-degradable waste, promotion of CFL bulbs, promotion of compost pits & wall writing on climate change in common places in the villages.
Climate change education in schools is another major recent green activity of the SCINDeA Network. Material on climate change education has been developed in the local language. Currently 30 middle & high schools in rural & tribal areas are being covered.
